Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – September 20, 2016 – The Boeing Company has announced its commitment to contribute $100,000 to the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics to expand its Computer Science and Pre-Engineering curriculum.  The aerospace giant’s charitable investment is allowing the state math and science boarding school to further develop engineering specific curricula based on 21st century skills that encourage students’ practice of problem-based learning.

“Around half of all OSSM graduates who are beyond their education and now in the working world are practicing engineers,” said OSSM president Frank Wang, Ph.D.  “Boeing’s grant will allow OSSM to strengthen and expand its course offerings,  as well as educational opportunities (including space and equipment for hands-on building, testing and ‘tinkering’) to prepare students for further collegiate study and careers in engineering.”

“Boeing is committed to improving the quality of life in the communities where our employees live and work,” said Jenny Hatton, Boeing Oklahoma City Corporate Giving focal. “Our charitable investments in Oklahoma are aimed at organizations where they will make the greatest possible impact. In addition to corporate donations, our giving strategy provides opportunities for employees to get involved in their local communities in meaningful ways.”

Boeing engineers participated earlier this year in OSSM’s 25th anniversary celebration, Quantum Experience, sponsoring a STEM Day engineering challenge program for middle school students.  More such activities are planned and will be announced via the OSSM Foundation’s website at www.ossmfoundation.org.

Nationally ranked as a top public high school in the United States, OSSM provides an academically advanced curriculum in science and math to juniors and seniors across the state.  Created through legislative action in 1983, the two-year residential public high school also serves all Oklahoma schools and students through math contests, research, teacher training, summer programs and other outreach activities during the academic year on OSSM’s campus and throughout the state.  For more information, visit the school’s website at www.ossm.edu

We are tremendously grateful for Boeing’s strong support!
